This is one of the special clinics of down town hospital, set up with the view of assessing hearing of children. Deafness in children is quite common in our community. 15% of our child population suffers from some type of deafness. There are many reasons for hearing loss. Sensorineural hearing loss may be due to � genetic factors, consanguinity, random intake of drugs and medicines by pregnant mothers without consulting a doctor, birth complications, infections acquired during pregnancy, and illness in childhood like mumps, measles or meningitis.
Screening tests available in this clinic are:
� Pure-tone audiometry
� Impedance audiometry
� Brainstem evoked response audiometry (which can assess hearing threshold even in new-born)
