down town Charity Trust The down town Charity Trust was formed by a Deed of Trust, executed
on 29th Dec 1997. The settler of the trust is down town hospital
ltd. The urge to do something for the poor and not so fortunate
section of the society let to the formation of down town Charity
Trust. Apart from doctors, the members of the Trust include
Engineers, Educationists and other professionals from various walks
of life.
Mission of the Trust: To reach premium Health Care facilities to the
economically weaker section of the society & provide Infrastructure
to develop the Human Resource of the Region.
The Vision: A community having accessibility to premium health care
facilities irrespective of economic status.
The goals:
� Providing Advanced Health Care to the economically weaker section
and the remote rural dwellers to whom updated Medicare is a far cry.
� Providing an academic base to nurture physicians of this region
through Continuous Medical Education Programs
� Establishing a platform for Human Resource Development
The activities of the Trust so far :
� Conducting public health awareness programmes.
� Conducting scientific seminars, workshops and CME on Health and
Medical Sciences.
� Organising Public Orations on various medical topics beneficial to
the general public
� In the last six years, more than 50 health camps were organized in
remote areas and over 20,000 people were provided free treatment as
well as medicines.
� The trust has instituted an annual award in medicine for teaching
and non-teaching doctors.
� Providing free service to the poor population.
Smile Train Project In 2002, the Trust entered into an agreement with the Smile Train
Inc. of New York to offer free corrective surgery to poor patients
born with cleft lip and palate. Till date about 450 such surgeries
are performed. The patients are coming from all NE States and North
Bengal.
� CRC (under Ministry of Social Welfare) had joined hands with the
Trust to kick-start a deafness prevention project aptly named The
Dhwani Project.
� down town Charity Trust is the only organization in this region
and perhaps one of the very few in the whole of India to initiate a
Vastra Bank in the name of Shankar Madhab. This bank would offer
used as well as new clothes to people in need, every when every year
half of Assam is submerged in water.
� Recently we started the construction of a double lane RCC bridge
over river Bahini, connecting G. S. Road with Dr. Zakir Hussain
Road. This bridge built at a cost of about Rs. 35 lakhs would
benefit more than 2 lacs population in the vicinity of our corporate
hospital.
Shankar Madhab Rural Charity Hospital
One of the most ambitious project of down town Charity Trust is
establishing a charity hospital in the name of Sankar Madhab Rural
Charity Hospital at Panikhaiti about 17 kms from the city of
Guwahati, in a tribal belt comprising basically the Garo, Mising,
Karbi, Hajong Christian Population in Kamrup district.
1.This hospital would be a 300-bedded hospital where treatment would
be provided at a subsidized cost for the people. 100 beds in this
hospital would be absolutely free and the rest would be at a no
profit no loss basis.
2.A plot of land measuring about 44 acres has been procured.
3.Already more than 800 million Indian Rupees have been spent
towards the construction of the building as well for the development
of the approach road.
4.It is projected that the project once started, will develop human
resources of this area by providing direct employment to about 1500
people and indirect employment to about 3000 people. Further there
would be development of this area consequent to betterment in the
infrastructural facilities.
